"I don't believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman"

Yeah, but Jesus was a HISTORICAL PERSON. Come on now, you can't draw that simple of a comparison...Although he did get a lot of High Christology tacked onto him after he was long gone, mostly by people who didn't even know him but wanted good reasons to defy authority by believing he was cooler than Caesar, and stuff...which he WAS. So, Christianity is...is...FUN! Not "stupid," as you so cruelly suggest. Except I don't like to have very much fun, which is why I'm not a Christian.

There is a bit more than a little irony in the Negativeland tune, unless you really buy the corollary that communism is good.

So, Jesus was a historical person? Cite me to a written record outside the approved gospels? I still think it all went to shit at the Council of Nicea.

Extra-biblical references to Jesus are scant, at best, if they are even authentic. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, who wrote "Jewish Antiquities," mentions Jesus, but the authenticity of his writings have been debated. That is the most common example used. It really comes down to mainly using the gospel texts (or even the Gnostic or heretical gospels) to determine the historicity of Jesus. My view is that there is probably good evidence from all these religious texts to reasonably assert that they are based on a historical figure who was most likely named Jesus. I'd like to give them that...

If you have/practice compassion, what else is important? Is it his alleged divinity or the "divine message" that is more important?
